Behold Your King

They beat Him savagely,
Mocked Him in all their scorn,
They crowned Him King with twisted thorns.

They dressed Him in purple,
A royal robe of spite,
Is this your King? “No, crucify!”

Behold the Man! Behold your King!
Suffering…

He is the King of glory,
Son of Man by virgin birth,
He is the King of glory,
Son of God beyond worth.

They gave Him a title,
But they erred on the sign,
He’s the King of kings for all time.

They placed Him in the grave,
But it would not hold Him long,
He appeared then rose to His throne.

Behold the Man! Behold your King!
In victory…

He is the King of glory,
Son of Man by virgin birth,
He is the King of glory,
Son of God beyond worth.

Crucified and risen,
Seated in all wisdom,
He reigns in victory!

Behold your King!
Behold your King!
Behold your King!

Behind the lines

Based on John Chapter 19, these lines attempt to capture how Pilate and the crowd viewed the King of kings and what happened to Him from the time Pilate gave him over to be crucified through His glorious resurrection (Chapter 20).

I wonder how many in the crowd yelling “crucify Him” saw Jesus for who he truly is after the resurrection?

So he delivered him over to them to be crucified.
So they took Jesus, and he went out, bearing his own cross, to the place called The Place of a Skull, which in Aramaic is called Golgotha. There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, and Jesus between them. Pilate also wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It read, “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.” Many of the Jews read this inscription, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and it was written in Aramaic, in Latin, and in Greek. So the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘The King of the Jews,’ but rather, ‘This man said, I am King of the Jews.’” Pilate answered, “What I have written I have written.”
(John 19:16-22 ESV)

Today many still struggle with who Jesus is. The Bible says one day every knee will bow to Him and every tongue will confess He is Lord.

for it is written,
“As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me,
and every tongue shall confess to God.”
(Romans 14:11 ESV)

Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
(Philippians 2:9-11 ESV)

Is Christ your King?
