Into His Hands

When distress weighs heavy like darkness
When sorrow’s grip squeezes too tight
When our eyes waste away in sadness
When there’s terror on every side

Be strong, O saints, and take courage
Be strong and wait for the LORD

For He’s our Rock and our Refuge
Forever Faithful to defend
He’s our Shelter to which we say, Amen!
His Fortress can’t be measured
Proven to hold time and time again
Commit your spirit into His hands

When our tongues struggle to be bridled
When our eyes are tempted to sin
When our hearts beg to worship idols
When we war with the flesh within

And as the sun’s light slipped away
Jesus, would say:
Father, into Your hands I commit my Spirit

Behind the lines

Psalm 31

I am poured out like water,
And evil encircles me,
Like wax, my heart melts away,
And I don’t have any strength.
Why have you forsaken me?

My God, my God,
Hear my cry, where are you?
My God, my God,
Where can I find a Refuge?
Deliver me, My Help,
Come quickly, O LORD,
Will you come to rescue?

Despised by all the people,
They shake their heads and mock me,
Gambling, they took my garments,
And they’ve pierced my hands and feet.
Why have you forsaken me?

All my bones are out of joint,
My parched tongue longs for a drink,
A worm, I am not a man,
The grave is my destiny.
Why have you forsaken me?

Not forsaken,
You have not forsaken me.

Psalm 22 is cited numerous times in the New Testament because it expresses the suffering of Christ. See also Psalm 69.

Be Still

Though tears will flood,
As the whole earth shakes,
And mountains fall into the sea,
God is my Refuge and Strength.

Be still, my soul,
Be still, and know,

I AM – The LORD,
Is my Refuge and Strength,
My Help in trouble’s way,
Trust the LORD of hosts,
Who breaks fears and woes,
And turns sorrows to praise.

Though emotions rage,
He utters His voice,
Great struggles and battles cease,
God is my Refuge and Strength.

You reign on the throne,
Sovereign over all,
Whom shall I fear?

Behind the lines

Psalm 46, which inspired Martin Luther to write A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.

God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
(Psalm 46:1 ESV)

“Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
(Psalm 46:10 ESV)
