Toothpaste

Most small children like to eat it,
Older kids don’t think they need it,
Most adults can’t live without it,
‘Til their brand is gone – don’t doubt it.

It’s purchased in white, blue, or pink,
And makes a mess in any sink,
It will disappear overnight,
A tube with wings in secret flight.

It foams at the mouth when it’s used,
Under pressure it feels abused,
It doesn’t like brushes with death,
And starts to squirm near morning breath.

I think it likes carpet the best,
But shirts are high up on the list,
You never want it in your hair,
But must use it or face that chair.

Tears

prayer-1269776_1920One knee beside the other,
But few words can be uttered,
I hear giant rolls of thunder,
Instead of my tears.

Rising to the window now,
I see the lights glow from town,
As the rain starts pouring down,
In sympathy tears.

Each streak of lightning reveals,
Scary trees and thunder peals,
I know how the windows feel,
Exposed in their fears.

With faces covered in rain,
I empathize with their pain,
And attempt to pray again,
But it spills out tears.

One knee beside the other,
But few words can be uttered,
I hear giant rolls of thunder,
Instead of my tears.

Behind the lines

Sometimes we need to grieve, or weep with those who weep (Romans 12:15). However, we do not grieve as if there is no hope. Our hope is in the Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18).

Caffeine

I thought today was tomorrow,
But that was yesterday,
Hiking the week has been a maze,
And I’ve not passed the peak.

Oh, what a crime, those stolen hours,
Sped this suspenseful climb,
The clock betrayed moments unblazed,
And now I’ve lost my rhyme.

Within seconds of sure defeat,
Epiphany reckoned,
And said, of course, “Your score is par,
But should have been much worse.“

“Assist your brain and get some rest,
Let all the caffeine drain,
Those lightning bolts to Frankenstein,
May be the cause for blame.”
