Create In Me A Clean Heart

Have mercy on me, O God
According to Your unfailing love
For I was born in iniquity
My sin is ever reminding me
Create in me a clean heart

There’s blood on my hands, O God
I have failed and lost sight of Your love
Don’t cast me away from your presence
Hide your face from my great transgression
Create in me a clean heart

Come deliver me, O God
According to Your redeeming love
Wash my heart and then make it whole
Renew my life and then scrub my soul
Create in me a clean heart

Restore me into joy, O God
Open my lips to sing of Your love
Lead me away from sin’s temptation
Let me rejoice in Your salvation
Create in me a clean heart

Behind the lines

Psalm 51 – David’s Psalm after God used Nathan to confront him over Bathsheba and Uriah.

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Let me hear joy and gladness;
let the bones that you have broken rejoice.
Hide your face from my sins,
and blot out all my iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and uphold me with a willing spirit.
(Psalm 51:7-12)

Habakkuk’s Song

LORD, here I stand in awe of You,
I’ve heard the report of Your fame,
In Your wrath remember mercy,
And revive the fear of Your name.

Your splendor reigns in the heavens,
Creation is full of Your praise,
Your brightness outshines ev’ry sun,
And Your flames dance like solar rays.

LORD, grant me a right perspective,
May I trust in Your sovereign plans,
The righteous live by faith in You,
And salvation is in Your hands.

Your judgment will come like a plague,
When You rise the nations shiver,
Mountains will break and then scatter,
And the earth will shake and quiver.

Though the fig tree never blossoms,
Though there is no fruit on the vine,
Even when the flocks have perished,
And there is no food I can find…

Yet, I will rejoice in You, LORD,
You are my hope through Your justice,
I will sing of Your salvation,
And rejoice in Your righteousness!

Jesus, Yahweh Saves

love-699480_1920Jesus, Eternal Son of God,
Betrayed, denied, by those He loved,
The Healer, Creator, and Blest,
Was crucified and laid to rest.

Jesus, Yahweh Saves,
Jesus, what a name!
Your life, Your death,
Your vict’ry over sin,
Yahweh saves, Yahweh saves!

Jesus, the Sacrifice of God,
The Light, The Bread, The Lamb and Blood,
The Temple, destroyed, and then raised,
Built again in only three days.

Jesus, Victor over all sin,
The grave could never hold You in,
You rose to conquer hell and death,
And fulfilled the Words You had said.

Jesus, Friend of sinners and thieves,
You have pardoned the worst of these,
You cast out demons in the soul,
Then drowned and bound them evermore.

Jesus, Returning King,
Living, reigning, interceding.

The wisdom of the world,
Denies an empty grave,
Rejects the God of Creation,
Doubts the need to be saved.

But the Lord of Wisdom,
Looks in the heart of man,
Finds there is no one who does good,
Knows that none understand.

The images He made,
Reflect their sinful hearts,
Refuse to repent of their sin,
Die and fade as they are.

But the Lord of the Sun,
Brings morning to the dark,
Reveals to man their need of Him,
Shines His light in their heart.

The Lord of Salvation,
Restores the lives of men,
Remakes them in His Son’s image,
Rejoices over them.

Behind the lines

The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds, there is none who does good.

The LORD looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one.

Have they no knowledge, all the evildoers who eat up my people as they eat bread and do not call upon the LORD? There they are in great terror, for God is with the generation of the righteous.

You would shame the plans of the poor, but the LORD is his refuge.

Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad. (Psalm 14 ESV)

There was a new day dawning,
New ears to hear Your calling,
A new heart beating for You.
Another transformation,
Chosen before creation,
Born again all things are new.

Now dead to sin,
Alive with Christ,
Death to the old life.

What was has passed away,
New life rose from decay,
Called out of the grave,
New life rose from decay.

Born again with new eyes,
Old tears replaced with new cries,
Cries of grace with tears of joy.
New lips to honor Jesus,
New voice to sing Your praises,
One more tongue to spread Your fame.

Called and changed,
No sin remains,
Blessed be Your name,
No sin remains.

Behind the lines

Jesus said, ” unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God (John 3:3).” This song highlights the wonderful transformation of one who was once dead spiritually, but now is alive to God in Christ as a “new” creation.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV).

If you have been born again, not only are you a “new” creation, you are also dead to sin. Romans 6:4-11 teaches us:

We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin.

Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him.

For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus (Romans 6:4-11 ESV).

Have you been born again?

Open Bible rippedO Lord, I am feeble,
You have all power;
My years are like a breath.
But blood covers my sin,
With grace abounding;
Your Song now lives in me.

My hope is in You,
My faith is in You.

Great are You, Lord,
The Lamb and the Sword,
Great are You, Lord,
For salvation.

O Lord, like deer panting,
For Living Water,
My soul now thirsts for You.
With joy I desire You,
Your Word lifts my heart;
Your mercy marvels me.

O Lord, I sing praises,
With voice and music,
Salvation comes from You.
Yes, You are Salvation,
The Word so wondrous,
The Lamb who ransomed me.

Yours is the power,
Yours is the Kingdom,
Yours is salvation.

Behind the lines

How great is the salvation of the Lord? He takes feeble sinners and by his grace presents them righteous through the shedding of His own blood. Salvation is His to give and whom He calls will be changed by Him, will seek Him, and will rejoice in Him.

But may all who seek you
rejoice and be glad in you;
may those who love your salvation
say continually, “Great is the LORD!”
(Psalm 40:16 ESV)

He is our joy, He is our hope, He is our Salvation. May we say continually, “Great is the LORD!”
